Grant application process

We appreciate that applying for funds can be time consuming, so we aim to make our process as simple as possible.  We operate a two-stage application process so that we can quickly get to know about your charity and assess whether we want to hear more about your plans.

1st stage: Apply by e-mail. We acknowledge by email within a week and you will hear back from us within a month if you are invited to progress to the second stage.

2nd stage: Online application. We make our decisions quarterly.

The whole procedure can take between 1 and 4 months (sometimes longer if many applications are received) so it is advisable to apply in good time if funds are required for a certain date.

Before going any further, please ensure you read our application guidelines and check that you are eligible to apply.

If your charity is eligible to apply, please send a two-page summary of the project you are seeking funding for.  The summary must include the following information and be in Word format;

  • Contact details and registered charity number

  • What is the need that your project is addressing?

  • Why is your charity best placed to carry out this work?

  • Who will benefit from your work and in what way?

  • Proposed start and end date

  • How will you measure your success? What are the outcomes and impact?

  • Budget breakdown

  • Your annual budget (income and expenditure)

Please e-mail your summary to info@sarahstrust.org Please do not send any additional documents or marketing materials as these will not be reviewed.

Each application is considered on its merits, based on the information provided in the two-page summary and the due diligence carried out by the administrator to the Trust.

If your application is successful, we will invite you to make a more detailed application for funding via a form on our web site. If you do not receive communication from us, please assume your application is unsuccessful. Whether or not your application is successful, please note we are unable to accept a subsequent application until at least 12 months have passed from the date that you sent your two-page summary.

If you are invited to make a second stage application, what information will you need to give?

  • A full project description.

  • Information on project partners (if applicable).

  • Evidence of the need for your work.

  • An explanation of what you want to achieve with our funding and the long-term benefits.

  • Information on your Trustees, staff and volunteers.

  • A full budget breakdown.

  • Information on other funding sources.

  • A copy of your latest approved annual report and accounts.

  • A job description and person specification for any post/s that you want us to fund.

  • Two named referees that we may contact.
